What is implant?
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant serves as a strong foundation for crowns, bridges and dentures; while preventing oral bone loss. The implant itself consists of an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw and integrates with the bone in a process called osseointegration.
To ensure immunocompatablity, the tooth root is made of titanium. The implantation process holds the replacement tooth or bridge in place. Finally, a porcelain crown is placed on the implant for aesthetic protection.
When to use implants?
Missing a single tooth: to avoid grinding neighboring teeth.
Missing molar teeth: implants help to avoid dentures.
Anodontia: traditional dentures cause discomfort while eating a primary cause of oral bone. Implantation of two to four implants can give good stability for denture, protecting from damage and ensuring comfort.
